Mother’s Day gifts (that you’ll love too)

by Elisa Parry

The only thing better than giving Mum a gift that she’ll absolutely love for Mother’s Day is giving her a gift that you will also enjoy as well. Is it selfish? No! Everyone knows that mums want to spend time with their family on Mother’s Day. In fact, it’s the perfect excuse for some quality mother-daughter or mother-son time. Think high-tea (delicious), wine tasting (always fun) or a getaway (because you deserve some R&R too!). Here are some gift ideas that mum is bound to love. And sure, they just might happen to be an experience that you, the gift giver (and favourite child) may enjoy as well and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Go for brunch

Let’s begin with the basics. Brunch: hands down the greatest meal of the day. Firstly, you get a sleep in (WIN!) and then you get to enjoy all the best bits of breakfast and lunch together. If you’re really lucky, there could even be a Bloody Mary involved or at the very least, a mimosa.

Take a mini-break

It’s almost May. Which means we’re almost halfway through the year. Which means tomorrow is basically Christmas. Where does the time go? It’s important to take time out to relax and recharge. Sure, there’s the Easter long weekend, but everyone gets that time off. Long weekends are always sweeter when everyone else is working. Gift Mum a getaway and spend some quality time together. You will be such an asset to her holiday. You’ll share the driving, let her choose the restaurants, even volunteer to do the coffee run in the mornings. You’re purely there to make her stay more relaxing and enjoyable. Should you also enjoy some time out to unwind, then power to you.

Treat yourselves to a pamper package

Mums never treat themselves to pamper packages which is why they make such popular Mother’s Day gifts. Come to think of it, when was the last time you treated yourself to a beauty treatment? It’s probably long overdue. And Mum will definitely enjoy the spa day more if you’re there with her…

Try a new cooking class

Is there a cuisine you really want to master? Imagine learning how to make the perfect dumpling? That kind of knowledge is a powerful thing. And if you share that with your mum, then you can share those skills with each other down the track. Take family dinner parties to the next level.

Tick something off your bucket list together

Has Mum always talked about skydiving or climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge? Maybe it’s time she scratched a big-ticket item off her list, of course, with you by her side. Skydiving is pretty scary! She’s definitely going to appreciate being able to hold your hand on the flight up. Not all bucket list items have to be adrenaline based. Hint: hot air ballooning is pretty incredible and doesn’t involve free-falling.
