Skydiving has become a popular extreme sport in Australia for its next-level adrenaline rush. Your heart rate will go bananas, and you’ll sport a grin from ear to ear as you plummet towards the planet at 250 km/h. This death-defying feat also lets you conquer your fear of heights and garner daredevil cred on social media.
We’ve got skydiving deals Australia-wide within your price range, making it easier than ever to book that bucket list experience. Get ready to overcome your fears with the comfort, safety, and reassurance of a highly trained instructor.
What is tandem skydiving?
A tandem skydive is when two people jump out of an aeroplane strapped together. The person at the back is the trained instructor who will guide the skydiver at the front (you) through the entire experience, including the jump, free-fall, pulling the parachute, piloting the canopy, and landing. The instructor will be a licensed skydiver with heaps of experience, so rest assured you’ll be in safe hands throughout your tandem skydive.
What to wear when skydiving?
Skydivers should wear lightweight, comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement. We also suggest wearing light, firm-fitting footwear, such as a nice pair of trainers. Some drop locations provide a full-piece jumpsuit.
Skydives don’t go ahead during wild weather, so it’ll likely be sunny (remember to wear sunscreen). If clouds are gathering or rain is forecast, call your supplier directly on the day to see whether the jump will proceed.
How old do you have to be to skydive in Australia?
The minimum age to go skydiving in Australia is 16. Under 18 skydivers will need a parent or legal guardian to accompany them on the day (don’t worry, they won’t have to jump too).
RedBalloon also offers indoor skydiving, which is suitable for tots as young as three. Indoor skydiving gives youngsters the thrill of freefalling until they’re old enough to experience the real thing. It’s also an easy-going alternative for adults who don’t fancy throwing themselves out of a moving aeroplane (no judgments here).
Is skydiving safe?
Although leaping out of an aeroplane sounds somewhat perilous, the adrenaline-pumping practice is actually remarkably safe.
Adrenaline partners with the most reputable, safety-conscious skydiving providers in Australia. All equipment, including harnesses, straps, and parachutes, is thoroughly checked before takeoff.
Your highly skilled instructor has done this countless times before and knows exactly what they’re doing. Don’t worry about freaking out mid-air because the instructor will handle the tricky bits and safely glide you down to the ground.
How much is skydiving in Australia?
RedBalloon has negotiated cost effective rates to offer some of the most value-for-money skydiving experiences in Australia. Prices range from $299 to $795 per person. Skydiving deals are also on offer, with the location, jump distance, and day of the week potentially affecting the price.
Where is the best place to skydive in Australia?
Home to some of the most spell-binding scenery on Earth, Australia has no shortage of picturesque places to hurl oneself out of a plane.
Skydiving in Sydney involves jumping over the pretty southwestern suburb of Picton or the nearby coastal city of Wollongong. When Skydiving in Melbourne, you’ll enjoy a sweeping birds-eye view of the iconic seaside suburb of St Kilda. Alternatively, head west for epic Skydiving on the Great Ocean Road. Or, if vineyards and lush rainforest-shrouded mountains appeal, try Skydiving the Yarra Valley instead.
Skydiving Adelaide gives you stacks of options, including Goolwa, Wallaroo Beach, Wellington, and wine-growing regions like McLaren Vale. If you’re Skydiving in Perth, expect epic vistas of the world-famous Rottnest Island, which you’ll get to explore in person upon touchdown. Finally, Skydiving in Byron Bay is a time-honoured classic for its magnificent coastal and hinterland views.
How to prepare for skydiving
Avoid alcohol or other mind-altering substances for at least 24 hours prior to the jump. Eat a decent meal on the day and ensure you’re well hydrated. Wear enclosed shoes and comfortable clothing that allows for a wide range of motion.
Arrive early and don’t feel embarrassed to ask questions. Focus on slow breathing to help settle your nerves.
