Located approximately 670km north of Adelaide and in the heart of the rugged northern Flinders Ranges, Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary offers a unique and immersive experience into some of Australia's most ancient landscapes. The multi-award winning sanctuary is surrounded by towering granite peaks and craggy mountains, and is oozing with extraordinary human history. Pack your bags for two nights at this natural wonderland and experience the unique outback scenery, geology and wildlife that makes Arkaroola unique. The half day 4WD Ridgetop tour takes you through the oldest parts of the region, across razor-back ridges and peaks of the Flinders Ranges most rugged mountains to the spectacular climax at Sillers Lookout. Over your travels, keep watch for critters that call these parts home including the shy and endangered yellow-footed rock wallaby.
The package also includes a tour of the starry night sky in one of the three astronomical observatories onsite. Recently accredited as an International Dark Sky Sanctuary, Arkaroola's remoteness and elevation above the desert plains make it one of the darkest places in the southern hemisphere and a haven for avid astronomers. Gaze in awe at the canopy of twinkling lights above you as learn more about the fascinating universe. There's plenty more ways to indulge in the splendour of Arkaroola including bushwalking, scenic flights and self-guided 4WD tours. It's truly a mecca for those with a thirst for adventure!
