Stretching over 123km along the coast of Queensland, K'gari (formerly Fraser Island) is the largest sand island in the world and is sprinkled with countless natural wonders. Explore the Great Southern Lakes section of the Fraser Island Great Walk during this three day hiking adventure. Over the course of the hike, you will uncover six perched freshwater lakes: Lake Boomanjin, Lake Benaroon, Lake Birrabeen, Basin Lake and Lake McKenzie, with endless swimming opportunities along the way. Savour the quiet wonders of the tracks as you admire these pristine lakes, ancient rainforests growing out of sand dunes and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. Each night you'll set up camp and sleep under the clear star-dusted skies.

Session Length

  • This experience is three days and two nights in duration
  • Departs Urangan at approximately 7am
  • Available between March and October

Restrictions

Hiking on Fraser Island is subject to the Fraser Island Great Walk hiking tracks being open, based on a precipitation level - due to fire safety. This is monitored by Queensland National Parks, as they can close the hiking tracks with little notice especially in the warmer months of November to March. Therefore this this hike is only run from March to October to ensure safety and confirmation of tracks.

Guidelines

  • A moderate level of fitness is required. Around 45km of walking in total
  • Minimum age is 12 years. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian

Cancellation

  • Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
  • Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
  • Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Weather

The climate of Fraser Island is subtropical, with warm daytime temperatures throughout the entire year. The winter months have an average temperature of14-25 degrees celsius and is less likely that you will see much rainfall during walking season. If it does rain it's generally short showers.

Dress Code

Please bring suitable walking/hiking shoes and clothing, lightweight food for all days on the hike, portable charger, torch, insect repellent, sun protection, large bottle to carry water and walking poles.
