Experience a breathtaking morning from the basket of a hot air balloon tour over Avon Valley. Arriving at Northam Airfield in the early morning, you'll be greeted with hot tea and coffee as your pilot briefs you on the day ahead. You'll then head to the launch site, where you can help with the exciting process of inflating the balloon. Once everything is set, step aboard and prepare for a magical flight that begins just before dawn.
As the balloon lifts off, you'll peacefully float above rolling hills, patchwork farms, winding streams, and tranquil forests, watching as the world below awakens with the first light of day. After landing, you'll assist in packing up the balloon before the retrieve crew whisks you back to Northam.
Session Length
- Please allow at least 4-5 hours for this experience, including the balloon inflation, the flight, vehicle recovery and champagne breakfast
- Your day will start early approx 1 hour prior to dawn. In the cooler months it can be as late as 6:00am and in the warmer months it can be as early as 3.30am
- Your flight will last for approximately 45 mins to 1 hour (although it is not possible to guarantee flight duration) Ground Crew will take you to our breakfast venue.
- Flights are available for bookings during April - November. Flights do not run on Wednesdays
Restrictions
Flights do not operate during the warmer months of December to March due to unsuitable weather conditions.
Guidelines
- Please advise your weight, any special dietary requirements and if you have had a recent injury or surgery at the time of booking
- People who have had recent back or leg injuries should consult their doctor before flying
- Flights run everyday except Wednesday, subject to availability, and minimum numbers between early April and late November
- Windward Ballooning will not knowingly fly anyone who is pregnant
- Please ensure our booking office has accurate weights for all of the passengers in your group.
- Safety is paramount in our operations and the conduct and duration of your flight is totally at the pilot's discretion
- Hand baggage and selfie sticks may not be carried in the balloon and must be left with the retrieve crew for the duration of the flight.
Cancellation
- Change your booking up to 7 days before the start time of your experience
- Changes are not permitted within 7 days of your experience
- Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
- If you do not arrive at the venue for the flight no refund will be made and you will lose the ability to book ahead for another flight
Numbers on the Day
The price quoted is for one person. There may be up to 20 other people in the basket with you during your flight.
Spectators
Groups of spectators are not encouraged as you do not always launch at the airfield, and vehicles cannot follow onto private property that you may launch from
Weather
In the case of strong winds or heavy rain your flight may be cancelled and rescheduled for a later date. If your flight is to be cancelled you will be contacted by 1pm the day before your booking.
Dress Code
Please wear casual clothing, and sturdy walking-type shoes (feet get cold and wet in the early morning dew). In cooler weather you will need a sweater or jacket. It does not get any colder in the balloon because we do not reach high altitudes and there is no wind chill factor as the balloon moves with the wind.
