Step on board and try your hand at the joy of sailing in this four-hour introduction experience. No spectator activity; learn key skills and begin to use them as you trim sails, winch sheets and even take the helm. Plus, enjoy refreshments and the sites as we motor up the Yarra on the return trip.
Get ready to experience adventure, excitement and the feeling of freedom as you set sail on the stunning 40- yacht, Boomer. No experience or special gear is needed for this four-hour trip and a full safety briefing is provided before you depart Docklands. Once on the water, your professional instructor will involve you in every aspect of sailing, ensuring that you're not just a spectator, but an active participant. In no time at all, you'll get the hang of it as you trim sails, winch sheets, and take the helm. You'll learn key skills, including how to tack, gybe, and trim sails for different points of sailing as you slice through the water, and the thrill of sitting on the rail like you're in the Sydney to Hobart is one you won't soon forget. Then, once the exciting part of your adventure is over, you'll motor up the river with a chance to enjoy refreshments and the sights of the Yarra River with your new shipmates.
Expectant guests who are 28-36 weeks pregnant will require medical clearance to board. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate anyone over 36 weeks gestation.
This expereince takes a maximum of seven trainees at a time to ensure you all have the opportunity to get involved.
Sailing is weather-dependent. We still sail if it rains, but if the wind is too strong (over 25 knots) we will need to cancel.
You need to wear non-slip shoes with non-marking soles that fully cover your feet (no sandals or thongs), shorts or long pants depending on the weather, and a warm layer of some kind. It is usually five degrees cooler on the water than on the land, so remember that warm layer. In most conditions, you won’t get wet, but if it is windy you may get wet and need a change of pants and shoes.
